My husband and I recently had the pleasure of visiting Italy for 4 glorious weeks! Because we had quite a lot of time, we were able to explore a lot of the country...  from Sicily, to Tuscany, to the northern lakes. Highlights include: Absolutely everthing (EVERYTHING!) in Rome... from the ruins to the museums, the art, history, and catacombs. Florence was amazing, with the Basilica di Santa Maria and Duomo which knock you on your ass, to the cool markets, gorgeous architecture and interesting sights. The Duomo di Milano cathedral in Milan will stop you in your tracks as you round the corner, and the shopping in Milan is ridiculous. Absolutely loved the ruins of Pompeii, the snowy hike on volcano Mount Etna (near chaotic and crazy - yet fun! - Catania), the 5-hour hike on Cinque Terre Trail along the Ligurian coast, the lakes and mountains of Pallanza-Verbania, the gorgeous leaning tower in Pisa, the train ride through the mountains to Switzerland for a day (ferry ride back), sights of Venice, staying on the sea in an old nunery in Salerno, and the awesome, jaw dropping sights of the Amalfi Coast. Also loved the pizza, gelati and cappucinos, of course! Viva Italia!
