Running back to Saskatoon

As chair of the Manitoba Chapter of the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada, there are a lot of things for me to do. I’m forever on the email, reviewing portfolios, answering questions, and as many of you know, recruiting volunteers.

This coming weekend is one of my rewards for the long hours I put towards the GDC. It’s the National AGM. Every year it is held in a different Canadian city, this year it is in Saskatoon. Because it is so close to home we have opened the invite to the entire executive for Manitoba. Although not all can attend, five out of nine is a pretty good showing.

The weekend is always enlightening, entertaining and completely exhausting. Friday and Saturday we will be in session all day, reviewing policy, discussing ideas how to benefit our membership and communities and brainstorming new ideas that will help everyone out. Then in the evening the real work happens. After a few drinks, we can usually iron out any issue.

As you hit the snooze button on your alarm clock this Thursday morning (April 24), I will be heading North West with a van full of designers, our road trip playlists on the ipod, and DS tournament in the back seat.

Don’t worry, I’ll be back at work Monday morning to answer all of your emails!
