On Saturday, The Winnipeg Art Gallery held their preeminent annual fundraising event, this year coinciding with the launch of the Marilyn Monroe: Life as a Legend exhibition. The night was truly spectacular. I went with my equally spectacular wife, Holly.

Holly and I had the distinct honour of eating at the head table with The WAG’s Director Stephen Borys, iconic Canadian and Winnipeg artist Wanda Koop, The Canadian Museum for Human Rights COO Patrick O’Reilly along with their guests. We were also dining with Visual Lizard’s Doug Ross and his date, Deb. Our table was part of a group that were situated right in the Marilyn gallery and so we were among the first to view exhibition.

The night progressed into the auditorium for a ’teaser’ of the Marilyn: Forever Blonde play, a welcome by Mr. Borys, and a fundraising auction of spectacular jewelry and vacations, as well as stunning artwork.

It was nice to be able to take a break from my usual patterns and attend this event. I had a great time meeting people like Eric, Patrick and Pat from our table, as well as being able to better get to know others that I have met previously like Wanda Koop and Lisa Friesen, the WAG’s resident designer. I really wish I could have participated in the auction, but even the starting bids were beyond my means!
